Adrian Vermeule applies the insights of systems theory to constitutional and legal theory in his recent book, The System of the Constitution, based on several articles published between 2005 and 2010. In the book Vermeule attempts to answer various constitutional and legal questions through a "system of systems" framework. He defines a system as an aggregate with properties determined by its components. Components may be composed of individuals or institutions (aggregations of individuals). Moreover, he defines a constitutional order as a system of systems, or the interaction of various other institutions.
