Yichen Rao is a PhD candidate in anthropology, science and technology studies (STS) at Hong Kong Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (HKIHSS), The University of Hong Kong. His dissertation is based on the long-term fieldwork studying the development of China’s “internet finance” industry and the collapse of China’s peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms in the past few years. He also leads a global research collaboration “Reimagining Fieldwork in the COVID Time” funded by Universitas 21. Yichen has published original articles in Economic Anthropology (forthcoming) and History of Psychology.  Yichen earned an MPhil in and an MA in anthropology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong as well as a BA in English from Wuhan University.
