Simonas Cepenas is a PhD student in political science at the University of Virginia. His research interests include the propensity of authoritarian regimes to initiate and escalate interstate conflicts, focusing on the relationship between the strength of domestic political institutions and interstate conflict, or how state infrastructural and despotic powers affect autocrat’s decision making process. Simonas earned an MA in political science from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and a BS in economics & politics from ISM University of Management & Economics. He was a Mercatus Center Don Lavoie Fellow during the spring 2021 semester.
