Rebecca Yemo is a PhD student in Global Governance and Human Security at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She earned an MA Global Governance and Human Security from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, an Masters of International Studies from North Carolina State University and a BA in Linguistics & Spanish from the University of Ghana. She was an Adam Smith Fellow during the 2022-2023 academic year. Her dissertation examines the extent to which states in Sub-Saharan Africa have implemented UN Universal Periodic Review recommendations concerning women's right to education and violence against women. In particular she examines policies, legislation, and other measures taken by states, NGOs, CSOs, and community leaders in implementing these recommendations and whether the implemented recommendations have had any impact on literacy rate and the prevalence of female genital mutilation.
