Oliver McPherson-Smith is a DPhil student in politics at the University of Oxford. His research interests include the role of the private sector within economic development, and more specifically, the political economy of natural resource wealth in non-democratic regimes. Oliver earned an AM in Middle Eastern studies from Harvard University and a BA in land economy from the University of Cambridge. He was a Mercatus Center Frédéric Bastiat Fellow during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years and an Adam Smith Fellow during the 2019-2020 academic year.
