Michael Promisel is a PhD student in political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests include the virtues of democratic society, leadership, and the balance of freedom and power in self-governing communities. His research focuses on interpretations of texts in the tradition of political theory and American political thought, and relating these texts to contemporary moral, social, and political questions. Michael earned a BA in government from the University of Virginia.  He was a Mercatus Center Adam Smith fellow during the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 academic years.
