Lewis Hoss is a PhD student in political science at Northern Illinois University. His research interests include liberalism and the role of moral emotions in modern political thought, especially the study of compassion and sympathy as two distinct forms of fellow-feeling that were theorized in the eighteenth century by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Adam Smith respectively. Lewis earned a BS in political science from Northern Illinois University. He was a Mercatus Center Adam Smith fellow during the 2018-2019 academic year.
