Jian Xu is a PhD student in political science at Emory University. His research interests include the interactions between institutions and firm strategy in emerging markets, particularly, how formal and informal institutions shape firms' non-market strategies to mitigate political and legal risks in developing economies characterized by a lack of rule of law, arbitrary and predatory regulations, and discriminatory market access regimes. Jian earned an MA in political science from Duke University and a BBM in accounting from Zhejiang University.
