Craig Lyons is a PhD candidate in history at Cornell University. His research focuses on medieval legal history, with a particular interest in the period surrounding the English conquest of Ireland in the twelfth century. As part of his dissertation, he explores the responses of individuals of Norse descent in Ireland's mercantile port towns to the sudden imposition of a new and evolving legal system and its supporting institutions. Craig earned an MPhil in medieval history from Trinity College, University of Dublin and a BA in history from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. He was a Mercatus Adam Smith fellow during the 2019-2020 and 2020-21 academic years.
