Craig Lyons is a PhD student in history at Cornell University. His research interests include the development of mercantile networks and attempts to control them between the Viking Age and the rise of the Hanseatic League, and in particular, understanding the emergence of medieval states and the early state-building impulses which were frequently tied to efforts to secure control over economic policy. Craig earned an MPhil in medieval history from Trinity College, University of Dublin and a BA in history from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. He was a Mercatus Center Adam Smith fellow during the 2019-2020 academic year.
