Carlos Schmidt Padilla is a PhD student in political science at the University of California-Berkeley. His research interests include the political economy of development in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, especially how land tenure regimes affect patterns of economic and political development across the world and how historical events and junctures shape modern-day political and economic outcomes. Carlos earned a BA in government from Harvard University. He was a Mercatus Center Adam Smith fellow during the 2017-2018 academic year.
