Now Accepting Applications for the 2018-2019 Academic Year!

Mercatus Center Academic & Student Programs is now accepting applications for the 2018 – 2019 academic year. We offer four graduate programs and one undergraduate program for students interested in political economy and public policy. Apply to one of our programs today for an opportunity to enhance your studies and get practical experience applying the economic way of thinking to current academic and policy questions!

The PhD Fellowship is a full-time, competitive fellowship program for students pursuing a doctoral degree in economics at George Mason University. It includes full tuition support, a stipend, and experience as a research assistant working closely with Mercatus-affiliated Mason faculty. It is a total award of up to $200,000 (over five years). The application deadline is February 1, 2018.

The MA Fellowship is a two-year, competitive, full-time fellowship program for students pursuing a master’s degree in economics at George Mason University who are interested in pursuing careers in public policy. It includes full tuition support, a stipend, and practical experience as a research assistant working with Mercatus policy scholars. It is a total award of up to $80,000 over two years. The application deadline is March 1, 2018.

The Adam Smith Fellowship is a one-year, competitive fellowship for graduate students attending PhD programs at any university and in any discipline. Smith Fellows receive a stipend and attend colloquia on the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy. It is a total award of up to $10,000 for the year. The application deadline is March 15, 2018.

The Frédéric Bastiat Fellowship is awarded to graduate students attending master’s, juris doctoral, and doctoral programs at any university and in a variety of fields including economics, law, political science, and public policy. Bastiat Fellows receive a stipend and attend colloquia on public policy. It is a total award of up to $5,000 for the year. The application deadline is March 15, 2018.

The Joseph Schumpeter Undergraduate Fellowship is a competitive, renewable fellowship offered to undergraduate students at George Mason University. Fellows spend a semester studying foundational writings in political economy and recieve a stipend of up to $1,000 for the semester. The application deadline for the Spring 2018 semester is January 5, 2018.
