Emily Skarbek

Lecturer, Department of Political Economy, King's College London

Emily Skarbek (née Schaeffer) is a Lecturer in the Department of Political Economy at King's College London and a Mercatus PhD Fellowship alumna. Prior to this, she was a Research Fellow at the Center for the History of Political Economy at Duke University, the Director of the Center on Entrepreneurial Innovation at the Independent Institute, and an Assistant Professor of Economics at San Jose State University. Dr. Skarbek earned her Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University in 2009. Emily's interests include consitutional political economy, Austrian economics and research regarding volunteerism in city planning. Other research interests include the ability of private institutions to address and alliviate social problems.

Dr. Skarbek earned her BA in economics from Loyola University of New Orleans.
